My 33rd year 

Well I’m officially 33 years old!  I look back over the last year and am pretty pleased with what I’ve accomplished. 

I ran 2 half marathons, 4 10Ks, 10 5Ks, 1 8K and my first ultra. This year my goals are bigger and grander but I have no doubt I’ll accomplish them.  

So I celebrated my birthday by spending 90 minutes basking in the glorious heat of Bikram Yoga Voorhees. 

There is no better way to start a day.  Today was rest day for running as per my very strict schedule I’ve made. I wasn’t really complaining about not running though. We had freezing rain until late last night and supposedly more is on its way tomorrow. Mother Nature is on a rampage or so it appears. 

So I confess, my friend that I talked about yesterday who finished reading Born To Run isn’t the only person to go a little overboard. I’ve had Chia Seeds before and I do love them, but I’ve never tried them as an energy option for running. That has changed now, I’ve found some recipes and ideas so I’m gonna give it a try. Today though I wanted to try making chia chocolate pudding. 



Here’s the ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/4 cup chia seeds
  • 3 tablespoons raw cacoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or raw honey
  • Dash of Himalayan sea salt 

I used just a plastic container to mix them. I just tried a little now and after adding just a touch more maple syrup it’s actually very tasty! I recommend it. 

I also got some bison steak and had that for my birthday dinner with roasted sweet potatoes and steamed zucchini.  Amazing! I rarely eat red meat and I prefer the more “exotic” meats…..pretty much anything other than beef to be honest. I had a coworker give me some venison a few weeks back and I’ve been obsessed with having more since then. No such luck finding venison so I settled on bison. I’m hooked. I will be buying more. In bulk! 



Today was my official first day of my six week online running training. Today called for yoga, insanity asylum speed and agility and a 20 minute strength training routine. I completed them all. The insanity and strength training took awhile since I was maneuvering around three dogs and my phone rang a fair amount. It’s ok though since that insanity workout is intense. Plus I have a puppy who is obsessed with my sweat and there was plenty of that dripping off me. 

I feel good that day one is done and I survived. I can’t wait to see how the rest of the month goes. 

Now to relax with some wine….minus the cheese. Day two without cheese is rough….I shall persevere!!  I just need more wine 😉

  1. Happy birthday! That’s great accomplishments in your short life. 🙂 Your dinners sounds delicious and I love bison and sweet potatoes. I am not a fan of the texture of chia sees but my husband swears by them. I love your wine glass…and wine. 🙂

  2. Happy birthday! I must agree chia seeds with oats is great. I’ve also read a few recipes where they blend them in the pudding. I haven’t tried it yet though.

    1. My glass says ‘running begins not with the feet but with the mind’ I found it on Etsy. We are forecasted to get more freezing rain, then snow on Thursday. I don’t know how you can run that far on a treadmill. I can only do 4 max….kudos to you!!!

  4. Ugh, I get totally grossed out by the idea of exotic meats. My wife has deer sausage in our freezer right now and I feel guilty since I think deer are adorable. Apparently to her they are also delicious.
